On the Meeting of the Leadership of the PMR’s MFA with the Delegation of Embassy of Finland in Romania

On May 15, 2012 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Nina Shtanski met Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland in Romania Ulla Vaisto. Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and attache of the Embassy of Finland Maya Valivaara also took part in the meeting.

It was the first visit of Finnish ambassador to Pridnestrovie. Finnish delegation had a goal to get unbiased information on the events taking place in Pridnestrovie at first hand, to contact the new leadership of the Republic and to learn about its position in context of Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement.

Ulla Vaisto informed that Finland supports the process of normalization of relations between Moldova and Pridnestrovie. She told about Finnish experience in resolving such conflicts and readiness to share this experience with all the stakeholders. “Aland Islands which are historical part of Finland were a problem for State. We managed to solve this problem and nowadays these islands are part of Finland and Swedish language which is used by the majority of population on the islands is one of the official in Finland”, – Ambassador said.

Nina Shtanski noted that Pridnestrovian side appreciates attention which Finnish Ambassador gives to the process of normalization of Moldo-Pridnestrovian relations and to the 5+2 format in particular. Minister told that social-economic problems which are to be discussed in framework of coordinated agenda at the Permanent Conference.

Minister also noted highly positive meaning of such visits. “I am very pleased that there is still tendency for foreign ambassadors to visit Pridnestrovie to get information about our Republic at first hand”, – Nina Shtanski said. According to Minister's words, Pridnestrovie used to face with situations when information about Pridnestrovie became distorted by unprincipled “mediators”. “We are striving to extend cooperation with our colleagues from other countries and from our colleagues from Finland in particular”, – Minister said.

During the visit the sides also discussed perspectives of further cooperation of two States in humanitarian sphere.
