Vitaly Ignatiev: “International partners follow utopian idea of saving Soviet Moldavia borders”

This was a statement of the Head of the Foreign Minister during an interview to German filmmaker Steffi Wurster.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev answered questions of the German documentary filmmaker Steffi Wurster, who visited Tiraspol within filming feature documentary about the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester “Post No. 6. The three sides of the river”.

The conversation focused on the current state of the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova giving accent to the topical problems in the relations between the parties, the role of international mediators and observers, as well as possible prospects of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement process.

In this context, when asked about the future of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vitaly Ignatiev noted that the post-1990 world map includes more than 35 new countries, most of which today has a broad international recognition. According to the Head of the PMR’s MFA, the people’s will has become the fundamental basis of the sovereignty of some of these countries in full concordance with international standards, and such a scenario is the only one acceptable for Pridnestrovie.

“We are making only realistic forecasts, in contrast to our Moldovan colleagues and some international partners that somehow follow a utopian idea of saving ‘Soviet Moldavia’ borders” – the diplomat emphasized.

“Our principled stand has always been that the settlement must take into account the actual reality that has emerged over the years and is based on the opinion of the people. As part of a utopian scenario of saving MSSR borders they refuse to recognize opinion of the people of Pridnestrovie. But we will never come to a sustainable settlement, if we do not implement the principle of free will of people who determined themselves which way to go and how to build their own statehood” – said the Foreign Minister of the PMR.

“We must admit that in 26 years Pridnestrovie has become a full-fledged effectively functioning state” – concluded Vitaly Ignatiev.

The premiere of feature documentary “Post No. 6. The three sides of the river” will take place in mid-2017.
